East Baton Rouge Parish Public Schools is one of the area's largest school districts. It contains at least 90 individual schools: 56 elementary, 16 middle, and 18 high schools. 23 of these schools are private schools, and at least two of these are schools for the deaf and for the visually impaired.
There are at least 10 colleges and universities in Baton Rouge, which includes the infamous Southern University (one of the most well-known historically African-American universities), and the Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College. This school is generally known as Louisiana State University or LSU. LSU includes nine senior colleges and three schools, with specialized centers, divisions, institutes and offices.
